Desk Htek IP phones can obtain the provisioning server address by detecting be provisioned through DHCP options duringStart up.

If you are using the IPv4 network, the phone will automatically detect the option 128The supported DHCP options for IPv4 are option 43, option 66, and option

43 for obtaining the provisioning server address.

 

To configure the DHCP option via the web page:

1.Configure the DHCP option.

2.Enable DHCP option to Override Server.

The Phone will obtain the provisioning server address from the DHCP Option.

3.Click Saveset to save the change.

During start up, the phone will broadcast DHCP request with DHCP options for obtaining the

provisioning server address. The provisioning server address will be found in the received

DHCP response message.

After the IP phone obtains the provisioning server address from the DHCP server, it will connect

to the provisioning server and perform auto provisioning during start up.

The following figure shows the example messages of obtaining the server address from

DHCP option 66:

Normally, we will use option 66 for provisioning and the default supported option on the phone is option 66, so we use it as an example.

Auto Provision - DHCP Option Method Work Flow

The phone will get the configuration file download URL from option 66 in the DHCP response.

And it will try to get the configuration file if it gets the URL success.

Steps for Auto Provisioning through DHCP Option 66

  1. Prepare a DHCP server and a configuration server (such as an HTTP server)

  2. On the DHCP server, set the value of option 66 to the URL of the configuration server.

  3. Confirm the phone enabled DHCP option 66

    1. Set Allow DHCP Option Server to Yes (on the old version, this option is To Override Server)

    2. Set Allow DHCP Option to 66

  4. Power up or reboot the phone to trigger the DHCP process.
